Hug a Puppy & Walk a Dog

A puppy puts the world in perspective. There's nothing better than a soft little furball tugging on your shoestring or a bundle of rambunctious on your lap.

But don't be fooled. These are no ordinary puppies. And yours are no ordinary hugs.

At Southeastern Guide Dogs, our puppy-hugging sessions are just one of the ways you can help us accomplish something big. Our guide dog training begins at birth, and our puppy hugging sessions are an important part of the process. When you arrive on campus to hug our 6-9 week-old puppies, you are helping us achieve the ultimate level of socialization needed to develop world-class guide dogs; dogs that are comfortable with people and accustomed to stimulation. Later they'll learn to focus on their job despite the distractions; but early on, these fun sessions help them prepare for life as a guide dog.

Need a little exercise? Volunteer dog walkers help us provide mild exercise, recreation, physical stimulation, and occasional grooming for our dogs in training.

Come feel the love. Hug a puppy or walk our dogs today.

Quote from Lois Bielass, Volunteer: "Every dog I walk is 'mine' for the time I have them, and it is a joy to help them develop. I feel good to be a small part of it."
