Special Needs
With its unique Special Needs Program, Southeastern Guide Dogs takes its mission to the next level. Guide dogs are trained for students who are challenged beyond their blindness with additional disabilities, such as hearing loss or wheelchair use. Each guide dog placed through our Special Needs Program is specifically trained for a particular student and situation. Any legally blind individual with one or more of the following described conditions may be considered for our Special Needs Program:
Hearing impairment, amputation, balance disorders, age considerations (seniors older than 70 years), language barriers, wheelchair use, diabetics, short stature, and MSCP.
