Therapy Dog Program

Therapy Dog Handler and Therapy DogThank you for your interest in Southeastern Guide Dogs' Therapy Dog program.

Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, and Rehabilitation Institutions acknowledge the healing nature of a dog's presence and will often request that one of our Therapy Dog handlers regularly visit their facility.

Whether it's the calming presence of a well-trained dog, or the healing power of unconditional love and companionship, Southeastern Therapy Dog handlers play an important role in enriching the lives of those within their community while educating the public about Southeastern Guide Dogs' important work.

As a Southeastern Guide Dogs Therapy Dog Handler, you will be carefully matched with a dog who possesses the special skills needed for a successful career in Therapy work. You and the dog will travel together to organizations, schools, speaking engagements and special events where a Therapy Dog's presence is needed.

We require a minimum commitment of sixteen (16) hours

monthly from our handlers which will be reported to us

at regular intervals.

As a handler, you will be expected to:

~Regularly report your Therapy Dog activities to the school

~Maintain the dogs' weight, grooming, preventatives (Heartworm and Flea/Tick), and appropriate medical care at your own expense

~Represent Southeastern Guide Dogs in the best possible light at all times

We look forward to your involvement in our Therapy Dog program!Report My Therapy Handler Hours
