Programs

Breeder Hosts - provides volunteers with the opportunity to foster the school’s breeder dogs for their lifetime. Host families ensure the dogs receive quality health care, at the school’s expense, and make the dogs available for breeding, public relations and fundraising responsibilities.

Puppy Raisers - provides volunteers with the opportunity to foster future guide dogs until the puppies reach the age of 14 to 20 months. During that time, puppy raisers teach the guide-dogs-in-training house manners, social skills and basic obedience; and expose them to a variety of environments – all under the watchful eye of school staff and volunteer area coordinators.

Paws for Independence - partners people with visual impairments with professionally trained guide dogs. Our certified trainers provide students and their new guides with 26 days of individualized instruction at our Palmetto, Florida campus – and lifetime follow up and support.

Gifted Canines - provides law enforcement agencies, hospitals, assisted-living facilities, nursing homes and individuals with special needs with dogs who excel in narcotic or arson detection, search and rescue, therapy and other specialized careers. Our school places dogs in the Gifted Canines program only if they do not meet the stringent criteria required for becoming guide dogs.

Paws for Patriots partners veterans with visual and other disabilities with professionally trained guide dogs and therapy dogs. Our certified trainers provide veterans with visual impairments with 26 days of individualized instruction at our Palmetto, Florida campus – and lifetime follow up and support.

IMPACT (Inmates Providing Animal Care and Training) - provides inmates at several minimum-security correctional facilities with the opportunity to contribute back to society by raising future guide dogs and teaching them basic manners and obedience. In return, inmates benefit from the therapeutic value of the dogs’ unconditional love and accelerate their own rehabilitation process.
