Special Needs Program

Special Needs:
With its unique Special Needs Program, Southeastern takes its mission to the next level. Guide dogs are trained for students who are challenged beyond their blindness with additional disabilities such as hearing loss or wheelchair confinement.

Southeastern’s Special Needs Program addresses the needs of blind individuals who are not only faced with being visually impaired but also with an additional disability. Each guide dog placed through our Special Needs Program is specifically trained for a particular student and situation.

Any legally blind individual with one or more of the following described conditions may be considered for our Special Needs Program:

Hearing impairment
Amputation
Balance disorders
Age considerations: seniors older than 70 years or youths age 16 or older
Language barriers
Wheelchair use
