Meet Quinn and service dog Jannus
Quinn Kobman’s service dog, Jannus, is extremely playful. She fits right in with the Kobman family, and Quinn and his wife have been teaching their six children the difference between a working dog and one who’s available to play all the time.
Quinn served in the Army Military Police and remains active in the reserves. With deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Egypt, and Guantanamo, Cuba, as well as a tour at the Pentagon, his work involved detainee operations. “I had to be nice to the bad guys,” he says, understating the intense operational stress and grueling conditions.
When PTSD started “kicking up again” with symptoms of suicidal ideations, depression, and anxiety, Quinn applied for a service dog, and Jannus offers welcome relief. “She gives me hugs even when I’m not asking for them,” he says, noting that he’s taking fewer medications since meeting Jannus. He has rejoined society more since Jannus became his service dog, and he is even taking Jannus to the kids’ sports events. “Jannus brings a lot of hope for good things to come,” he says. Meanwhile, Quinn is thankful for his wife. “She’s had it 100 times harder than me,” he says. “I deploy with 120 guys; as a reserve wife, she goes through the experience alone at home with the kids.”
