Southeastern Guide Dogs Celebrates National Guide Dog & Service Dog Month

September is National Guide Dog Month and National Service Dog Month. While this month is used to recognize working dogs, Southeastern Guide Dogs celebrates guide dogs and service dogs every day. The nonprofit breeds, raises and trains elite guide dogs for individuals with vision loss, service dogs for veterans with disabilities, and skilled companion dogs for children with significant challenges.

Southeastern Guide Dogs Needs Puppy Raisers

Southeastern Guide Dogs is spreading puppy love! The nonprofit has puppy raising groups across the southeastern United States, and there is always a need for people to open their hearts and homes to help raise these fuzzy superheroes to be. Volunteer puppy raisers take young dogs into their homes to teach house manners and basic skills to prepare the pups for advance skills training and life as a working dog.

“Beyond the Dark” Experience Returns to Southeastern Guide Dogs

COVID-19 Detection Dog at Work at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota

A new four-legged, wet-nosed addition is greeting people at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota. “Buffy” is a 2-year-old, sweet-tempered, yellow Labrador retriever and a highly trained scent detection dog from Southeastern Guide Dogs. Buffy meets visitors as they enter the hospital and if she detects COVID-19, the visitor is asked to get additional testing. Testing can be done free of charge at the hospital or if visitors prefer, another location.

National Walkathon Day—
Pups on Parade Across the United States in Support of Southeastern Guide Dogs

This year, the annual Southeastern Guide Dogs Walkathon is getting bigger and better by unleashing the traditional event, taking it to the streets and all 50 states with National Walkathon Day. Participants are invited to walk throughout neighborhoods, host a bake sale, run a dog washing event, or any other experience to help share Southeastern Guide Dogs’ mission through the power of social media. Veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other disabilities often live in isolation and depression, but they don’t have to. Southeastern Guide Dogs is lending a helping paw by providing highly trained service dogs that can restore one’s wellbeing. Veterans Days is Wednesday, and the organization is sharing this video to remind veterans, they never have to walk alone again.
